  • Hess Creek Restoration GFU has taken the lead to improve the portion of Hess Creek that runs through campus. Staff and students have transformed this canyon into a lush and diverse habitat with a great trail system that is not to be missed!
  • Every year, GFU students and staff partner with us and provide invaluable volunteer support for our stream restoration projects on Hess Creek with private/public landowners. GFU also hosts an annual water quality monitoring education day. Thank you GFU for all of your hard work to improve Hess Creek!

  • In 1993, Biology professor Kareen Sturgeon and her botany students at Linfield College discovered a population of the imperiled Kincaid’s Lupine at Deer Creek County Park. This area was recently incorporated into Yamhill County’s Habitat Conservation Plan for Fender’s blue butterfly.
  • Water Quality Monitoring Professor Nancy Broshot and ENVS 385 students have studied relative water quality in Cozine, Gooseneck, and Mill Creeks annually since 2011.

  • Portland State provides higher education opportunities across a variety of disciplines related to natural resources, agriculture, and conservation.
  • Watershed Research: PSU has conducted a variety of water resources studies in the Yamhill River Watershed, including issues of climate change, urbanization, etc. PSU is very interested in advancing and evaluating ecosystem services (nature’s benefits) and their impact.   • OSU Extension provides critical outreach, education, and technical assistance services that empower local businesses, residents, growers, and foresters to improve their communities and watersheds.
